Our Sustainability Projects

Our Sustainability Projects

At Weidmüller, we take responsibility for present and future generations. We make a contribution both economically and ecologically in order to shape a future worth living.

On this page, you can find out about some of our sustainability projects.

The Weidmüller Honey

The Weidmüller Honey

The Weidmüller Campus in Detmold not only produces technologies for the world of tomorrow. Whole colonies of bees also live here.

Alexander Quack, a Weidmüller employee and passionate beekeeper, has been looking after them for some time. Enjoy this taster of our hard-working helpers.

Our bees

Eight bee colonies with around 50,000 bees per colony produce our honey at various locations at the Weidmüller Campus.

Not only do we get first-class honey, but we also do something good for the environment. The bees promote biodiversity because they are on the menu of various animals. In addition, their pollination supports the yield of plants.

Soap Project for Equality

A future for women in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, discrimination against women is prohibited by law. However, especially in rural areas, old mindsets and practices persist that prevent women and girls from enjoying their rights. To improve the situation of women in the Zambezi Valley, the women's organisation ZUBO was founded in 2008. It works in the remote and barren district of Binga, on Lake Kariba. This is where the Tonga live, a long-disadvantaged minority in Zimbabwe. In Tonga, ZUBO is the name of the traditional fishing basket with which the women used to fish together in the shallow, flowing waters of the Zambezi until the construction of the Kariba reservoir.

In 2015, ZUBO laid the foundations for the soap project. It was supported by funds from the BMZ and donations from Welthaus Bielefeld. From this, a workshop was built and equipped with an oil press, and workshops were held to qualify the women.

Regional Afforestation

Climate protection at our doorstep

As a company, we recognise the high relevance of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In doing so, we have a direct influence on initiating measures for climate protection.

For us, this opportunity is not only a responsibility but also a conviction. We want to make our city and our world more sustainable and liveable for future generations. In doing so, we are doing our part for the healthy development of our world.

The damage caused by the bark beetle can be observed throughout the Teutoburg Forest. Even Detmold, our home town, has not been spared. In order to make our forest more robust against storms and drought in the future, we as a company have donated a five-figure amount for reforestation.

There is our tree nursery

Here, we have planted about 4,000 trees.
