Integrated line and load monitoring, separate alarm and diagnostic outputs and local LED status indicators are key features of the latest addition to the SIL3 range of safety relays from automation and control expert Weidmüller. The relays also have an exceptionally wide operating temperature range of -40 to + 70 ºC without derating, and carry both ATEX and UL approvals for use in hazardous environments.
The SCS 24VDC P1SIL3ES LL safety relay has been developed specifically for ‘energise to safe’ applications in the process industry. Its integrated monitoring functionality means that if the load circuit becomes open or short circuited, the user is provided with an instant warning, even if the fault occurs while the relay is in the de-energised state. This allows immediate remedial action to be taken to prevent a potentially dangerous situation from developing.
Designed to be used with nominal 24 V DC supplies, the relay is certified by TÜV Nord as meeting the requirements for safety integrity level 3 (SIL3) in low demand applications in line with EN 61508:2010. It has two safety output circuits rated at 2.5 A and, as a further convenience for users, it is provided with test inputs that can be used to verify that the output circuits are functioning correctly.
